Exploring the South Shore

Friday we explored the South Shore of Kauai.

We started out at sea level, drove to the south end of the island and started back.

Our first adventure - we drove up a mountain - elevation apx 3000 ft - to Waimea Canyon. It was absolutely amazing! It's called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

We stopped at a few beaches. Dave tried to find a dragstrip but it was closed. It's next to the Pacific Missile Range Facility - which of course we couldn't go to.

Our next stop was Kauai Coffee Company. They have coffee trees overlooking the ocean and then you can see the coffee trees with the mountains in the distance on the other side of the road. Really pretty.

Next we went to the Poipu beach area. We found a surf shop and beautiful beaches. We ate dinner at a really good pizzeria!

The last sight of the day was Spouting Horn - this is where the ocean waves shoot up through a hole in the lava rocks. It was really neat to watch. A long day exploring...we were all wiped out, slept so good!

Stayed at the resort today. Lots of sun!





Can you see the Gecko next to the lotion bottle? It was a light grey color but changed to blend with the counter.

Kauai - Waterfalls North Shore

Day 3 - We enjoyed the sunny morning at the pool. Started raining about 11 so we went exploring again. Found two beautiful waterfalls. Back at the beach and pool in the evening.

Apparently the Rooster is a very popular animal on Kauai. They are everywhere! Faith counted over 120 times she heard roosters crow while we were there. The picture of this rooster was taken behind a fence at one of the waterfalls.

Kauai - Exploring the North Shore

We drove to the end of the Island - on the North Shore of Kauai. Lots of beaches, cute little shops and beautiful scenery. We found two caves, beautiful uncrowded beaches and... a sea snake! - I did not realize there were sea snakes! Yuck! We were walking in the water - Little too close for me!

We had a great day! Rained off and on; tropical showers. We were so tired at the end of the day!

The plan: Wake up 2:30 a.m. get ready to leave for SeaTac airport by 4 a.m.
I set 3 alarms on my phone just to be safe! Probably should have gone to bed before 1:30 a.m. huh?!

Well, I woke up at 3:50 a.m. We jumped up, got dressed, grabbed our bags and were off to the airport by 4:15 a.m. Not the start to the day I wanted but that's o.k. We're on our way to Kauai!!!

Flew to San Francisco then on to Kauai...
